                Robert Castillo

                                            

 

Award Winning Illustrator, Animator, Director and Storyboard Artist Robert Castillo has been drawing since the age of five. He is the oldest of six boys. He was born in New York and raised in the Dominican Republic. In 1977 he returned to the United States, two years later in 1979 Robert won the prestigious Scholastic Achievement Award and was featured in a National book with the likes of Norman Rockwell.

 

In high School Robert won many Art awards and competitions which led him to a meeting with Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird creators of the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

While living in Springfield mass. Attalah Shabazz daughter of Malcolm X was visiting nearby Springfield College to speak, upon hearing this Robert created a portrait of Malcolm X and presented it to her after the speech. Robert also created a portrait of Nelson Mandela celebrating his release which hangs in Amherst College.  At Bristol Community College Robert received the B.C.C. Alumni Award.

He attended The Art Institute of Boston where he graduated with High Honors and received The Illustrator of the year Award. He has taught Pre-College Animation there for the past 2 years.

 

Robert has done Storyboard work for The Sopranos with Director/Actor Steve Buscemi.

He has worked on many Music Videos with Directors: Benny Boom, Diane Martel, Nick Quested and Anastasia Pappas. Videos for Ja Rule, Kid Rock and Alicia Keys. Some of Rob’s clients are Curious Pictures,VH1, Court TV, Hornet Animation, Hurd Studios, Adidas, Gorilla Flix, Mars Media, Phat Farm, HBO and The Department of Film at Goldcrest Post Productions. Robert has recently completed Storyboards for “The Cookout” due out in late Sept. starring Queen Latifah, Farrah Fawcet , Tim Meadows and Danny Glover and is being released by Lions Gate Films, directed by Lance Rivera. He recently graduated from The School of Visual Arts Masters program in Computer Arts. At SVA he has given workshops on Storyboards and Traditional Animation. His Thesis Film “S.P.I.C. The Storyboard of my life” Has won the Student Academy Award and is eligible for Oscar consideration. Currently Robert is doing Storyboard work for IDT/DPS on a 3D animated feature called “Yankee Irving” to be directed by Christopher reeve.
